  1. Gaining 5 lbs shouldn’t be that much of a problem, but since you say that you don’t eat much you should stick to high-calorie foods. That doesn’t have to be unhealthy though, since there is a shitload of foods that contain a lot of calories while still being quite healthy (peanut butter, non-alcoholic (!) beer and coconut milk being some examples).
Of course you could also do what powerlifters call “dirty bulking” and basically eat everything that is high in calories and cut all cardio for a while.
Also you should consume your food while watching TV or whatever distracts you enough from realizing that you are actually eating, your appetite will last much longer then.
I hope that you’ll be able to gain some weight, all the best!

    • Thanks Manny! I’ve actually taken a page out of the body builder book and tried the whey protein shakes. So far, I’ve gained 5 lbs but quickly lost 2lbs so I’m gonna keep on it and hopefully not become enormous during the winter.

  2. Page 80 of one of my bodybuilding books also gives a recipe for a rather inexpensive weight gaining shake, here is what it says:

    1 egg
1/3 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
    1/4 cup powdered milk
    1/2 banana
    3/4 cup whole milk
    4 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and mix for thirty seconds. Pour into a large glass and drink. Consume three of these special drinks daily: one at midmorning, a second immediately after work or school, and a third just before retiring at night.

    • Although that sounds awesomely good, how many grams of sugar is in one drink? Orange juice is one thing I try to stay away from because I’m diabetic. Is there anything else I can use in its place if I need to?

  3. Unfortunately the book doesn’t state about the sugar amount, but I think the orange juice is mostly for taste anyway. You could skip it and add a whole banana instead of 1/2 and throw in some berries (doesn’t really matter which ones) for taste, this should work fine too. I don’t know how much sugar grapefruit juice contains, but if (for some reason) it should contain less than orange juice, you could use it too.
You could also obtain unflavoured protein powder and add it to your milk (when eating corn flakes, for example).
However, you should drink a lot of water when using protein stuff, since it can be hard on the kidneys for some people.
    Hope that helps! 🙂
